What this tool does
This tool adds the same prefix and/or suffix text to the start and end of every line in your input, right in your browser. Paste or type a list, set a prefix and a suffix, and the result updates live.
By default, blank lines are left alone so you don't end up with lines made of nothing but your prefix and suffix stuck together, this can be turned off if you need every line wrapped.
Problems it solves
- Turning a plain list of filenames into a list with a file extension, like adding ".jpg" to every line.
- Wrapping a list of values in quotes or brackets to paste into code, like turning "apple" into "apple",.
- Adding a bullet character or dash to the start of every line to turn plain text into a list.
- Building a list of full URLs from a list of paths by adding the same domain prefix to every line.
Frequently asked questions
›What counts as a "line" for this tool?
Each line in your input, as separated by a line break, is treated separately. If you paste a single paragraph with no line breaks, it's treated as one line and gets the prefix and suffix applied once, at the very start and end.
›What does "Leave empty lines untouched" do?
When checked (the default), any blank line in your input stays completely blank in the output, instead of becoming just the prefix and suffix stuck together. Uncheck it if you specifically want every line, including blank ones, wrapped.
›Can I add only a prefix, or only a suffix?
Yes, leave the other field empty. Filling in just the Prefix field adds text to the start of every line only, and filling in just the Suffix field adds text to the end of every line only.
›Can I use special characters like quotes or tabs in the prefix or suffix?
Yes, the prefix and suffix fields accept any text you type, including quotes, brackets, and other punctuation. Literal tab or newline characters aren't supported through the input field itself, but any printable character is.
›Does this tool change the order or content of my lines?
No, only the prefix and suffix are added, the original text of every line and the order of the lines stay exactly as you entered them.
