What this tool does

Twitter/X Video Downloader saves a public video or GIF from a post on X (formerly Twitter) to your device, so you can watch it offline. Paste a post link, pick a quality, and download -- no account, no browser extension, and no X login required.

How It Works

When you paste a link, the server resolves the post's available video formats using yt-dlp, an open-source media resolver, and lists the qualities available without logging in. When you press Download, the server fetches that stream and relays it straight back to your browser as a download -- it is deleted from the server the moment it finishes sending.

Problems it solves

How to Download

  1. 1 Copy the post link -- open the post on X and copy its link from the address bar or the Share button.
  2. 2 Paste and fetch -- paste the link and press Fetch to load the post's preview and available formats.
  3. 3 Pick a quality -- choose a resolution from the list.
  4. 4 Save the video -- press Download and follow your browser's prompt.

Key Features

Limitations & Availability

  • Private accounts and protected posts are not reachable, even if you can view them in your own signed-in session.
  • Posts with no video or GIF attached have nothing to fetch -- a plain photo or text post is not supported.
  • A generated download link expires -- fetch the post again if it stops working.

Troubleshooting

›Fetching fails even for a public post

X can rate-limit automated requests -- reopen the post on X.com to confirm it still plays, then try again after a short wait.

›No formats appear

Confirm the post actually has a video or GIF attached -- a quote post or reply without its own media has nothing to fetch.

›Downloaded file is a silent, looping video

This is expected for X's native GIFs -- they are stored and served as a short, soundless looping video file, not a traditional animated .gif.

›Download fails for a long video

Try again after a short wait, or try a lower quality option -- very long videos take longer to prepare.

Frequently asked questions

›Is this legal?

It depends on the post and your local law. This tool only retrieves the same public video X already sends to any browser that loads a public post -- it does not unlock protected accounts or private posts. X's own terms technically restrict third-party downloading, though enforcement against personal, occasional use is weak and there is a large market of similar tools. You should still respect the original poster's rights, especially for anything you plan to reuse or republish.

›Does this work for GIFs?

Yes. X's "GIFs" are actually short, soundless videos under the hood, and this tool saves that same file -- it will just play as a silent looping video rather than a traditional animated .gif.

›Why did fetching fail for my link?

The post may be from a protected (private) account, deleted, or X may be rate-limiting automated requests at that moment. Reopen the post on X.com, confirm it still plays there, copy the link again, and try once more after a short wait.

›Does this work for Spaces or live broadcasts?

No, only videos and GIFs attached to a regular post that have already finished uploading. Live Spaces and in-progress broadcasts are not supported.

›Can I download a video from a reply or quote post?

Yes, as long as that specific reply or quote post has its own video or GIF attached -- paste the link to that individual post, not the original post it's replying to or quoting.

Respecting Creators

Posting on X earns creators visibility, replies, and -- for eligible accounts -- ad-revenue sharing tied to engagement on the platform itself. Save videos for personal use or reference, credit the original poster if you repost anything, and avoid passing off someone else's video as your own.
