MySQL Syntax Validator
FreeValidates MySQL syntax for one or more semicolon-separated statements, reporting the exact line and column of the first error found.
Runs entirely in your browser. Your SQL is never uploaded anywhere.
What this tool does
Paste a MySQL query or a script with several statements, and this tool checks whether it parses as valid MySQL syntax, reporting the exact line and column of the first error if it does not.
How It Works
The tool runs your SQL through the open-source node-sql-parser library, configured specifically for the MySQL dialect, which attempts to build a full parse tree (an AST) of your query. If the text matches MySQL's grammar rules completely, parsing succeeds and the query is reported as valid. If parsing fails at some point, the parser reports the exact line and column where it expected different syntax than what it found.
Problems it solves
- Catching a typo or missing comma in a SQL script before running it against a real database.
- Checking that a generated or templated query is still syntactically valid MySQL after string substitution.
- Reviewing a multi-statement migration script for structural errors before deploying it.
Frequently asked questions
›Does this check that my tables and columns actually exist?
No. This tool only checks grammar, whether the query is structured the way MySQL syntax requires. It has no connection to any database, so it cannot know whether a table or column name you reference actually exists, or whether a value fits a column's type.
›Can it validate multiple statements at once?
Yes, paste a full script with multiple statements separated by semicolons, and the tool checks all of them in one pass, reporting the first syntax error it encounters.
›Does this support MySQL-specific syntax, or just generic SQL?
It specifically targets MySQL syntax (including MySQL-specific clauses like ENGINE=, AUTO_INCREMENT, and backtick-quoted identifiers), rather than a generic or different-dialect SQL grammar, since MySQL has real differences from PostgreSQL, SQLite, and other databases.
›What does the line and column in the error message refer to?
They point to the exact position in your pasted text where the parser could no longer match valid MySQL grammar, counting from the first line and first column of your input. Jump to that position to find the problem, usually a missing comma, a misplaced keyword, or an unclosed quote.
›Why did my query fail even though it runs fine on my actual MySQL server?
This tool parses against standard MySQL grammar and does not know about server-specific extensions, custom functions, or a particular SQL mode your server has configured. If you hit a false positive like this, treat the live server as the final authority.
