What this tool does

Twitch VOD Downloader saves a full public stream recording from Twitch to your device, so you can watch it offline. Paste a VOD link, pick a quality, and download -- no account, no browser extension, and no Twitch login required.

How It Works

When you paste a link, the server resolves the VOD's available formats using yt-dlp, an open-source media resolver, and lists the qualities available without logging in. When you press Download, the server downloads and merges the fragmented stream into a single file, then sends it straight back to your browser as a download -- it is deleted from the server the moment it finishes sending.

Problems it solves

How to Download

  1. 1 Copy the VOD link -- open the VOD on Twitch and copy its link from the address bar or the Share button.
  2. 2 Paste and fetch -- paste the link and press Fetch VOD to load its title and available qualities.
  3. 3 Pick a quality -- choose a resolution from the list.
  4. 4 Save the VOD -- press Download and wait for the server to prepare the file.

Key Features

Limitations & Availability

  • Subscriber-only, private, and deleted VODs are not reachable, even if a link to them still circulates.
  • A long VOD can take a while to prepare -- the server has to download and merge the stream before the file is ready.
  • A generated download link expires -- fetch the VOD again if it stops working.

Troubleshooting

›Fetching fails even for a public VOD

Reopen the VOD on twitch.tv to confirm it still plays, then try again after a short wait.

›Download seems stuck

Long VODs take longer to prepare on the server before the download starts -- give it a few extra minutes before trying again.

›Only lower qualities are available

Twitch sometimes removes the original source quality from older VODs while keeping smaller resolutions -- this is a limit on Twitch's side, not this tool.

Frequently asked questions

›Is this legal?

It depends on the VOD and your local law. This tool only retrieves the same public VOD Twitch already sends to any browser that loads a public VOD page -- it does not unlock subscriber-only or private content. Twitch's own terms technically restrict third-party downloading, though enforcement against personal, occasional use is weak and there is a large market of similar tools. You should still respect the original streamer's rights, especially for anything you plan to reuse or republish.

›Why did fetching fail for my link?

The VOD may be subscriber-only, private, deleted, or the link may point to a live stream instead of a saved VOD. Reopen the VOD on twitch.tv, confirm it still plays there, copy the link again, and try once more.

›Why does downloading take so long for a long VOD?

Twitch VODs are delivered as fragmented HLS streams, not a single file. The server has to download and merge every fragment into one video before it can hand the file back to your browser, and that takes longer the longer the stream is.

›Does this work for highlights as well as full VODs?

Yes, as long as the highlight has its own public twitch.tv/videos/ link, the same way a regular VOD does.

Respecting Creators

Twitch streamers build a following and earn through subscriptions, bits, and ads on the platform itself. Save VODs for personal use or reference, credit the original streamer if you repost anything, and avoid passing off someone else's stream as your own.
