What this tool does

Niconico Video Downloader saves a public video from Niconico to your device, so you can watch it offline. Paste a video link, pick a quality, and download -- no account, no browser extension, and no Niconico login required.

How It Works

When you paste a link, the server resolves the video's available formats using yt-dlp, an open-source media resolver, and lists the qualities available without logging in. Niconico serves its video and audio as two separate streams, so when you press Download, the server fetches both and combines them into a single playable file using ffmpeg before relaying it straight back to your browser as a download -- it is deleted from the server the moment it finishes sending.

Problems it solves

How to Download

  1. 1 Copy the video link -- open the video on Niconico and copy its link from the address bar.
  2. 2 Paste and fetch -- paste the link and press Fetch Video to load its title and available qualities.
  3. 3 Pick a quality -- choose an option from the list.
  4. 4 Save the video -- press Download and follow your browser's prompt.

Key Features

Limitations & Availability

  • Member-only (paid channel) videos are not reachable, even if you can view them in your own signed-in session.
  • A generated download link expires -- fetch the video again if it stops working.

Troubleshooting

›Fetching fails even for a public video

Reopen the video on nicovideo.jp to confirm it still plays and is not member-only, then try again after a short wait.

›Only one quality option appears

This is normal -- some videos are only stored at one quality to begin with.

›Download fails

Try again after a short wait, or fetch the video again to refresh the link.

Frequently asked questions

›Is this legal?

It depends on the video and your local law. This tool only retrieves the same public video Niconico already sends to any browser that loads a public video page -- it does not unlock member-only content. Niconico's own terms technically restrict third-party downloading, though enforcement against personal, occasional use is weak and there is a large market of similar tools. You should still respect the original creator's rights, especially for anything you plan to reuse or republish.

›Why did fetching fail for my link?

The video may be member-only, deleted, or the link may point to a channel or series page instead of a single video. Reopen the video on nicovideo.jp, confirm it still plays there, copy the link again, and try once more.

›Why do some videos only offer one quality?

Niconico doesn't always generate a full set of resolutions for every upload -- some videos, particularly older or lower-traffic ones, are only stored at a single quality to begin with.

›Can I download a member-only (paid channel) video?

No -- this tool only works on videos anyone can watch without a paid membership. Member-only videos require a logged-in, paying account on Niconico itself.

Respecting Creators

Niconico creators build a following through views and the platform's distinctive scrolling comments, often as a hobby or a side income. Save videos for personal use or reference, credit the original creator if you repost anything, and avoid passing off someone else's content as your own.
